First published in 1903 by Heinemann, this 1912 edition has a happier, less gruesome ending. Some have speculated that this change was at the publisher's request!
Red cloth covered boards with blind stamped title and decoration to front board and bright gilt title and blind stamped decoration to spine. Wear to exterior includes minor bumping to spine ends and corners, light fading and minor rolling to spine, and a very small (1/4") tear to cloth at head of spine next to front hinge. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Light foxing and browning to endpapers. Minor browning to margins though text remains bright. 307 pages + publisher's ads. LIT/041323
